Starr Trust Celebration 2014

On October 7th 2014, we held our fourth celebration night, celebrating our achievements over the last twelve months. The evening kicked off with a champagne, sausage and mash reception, followed by a recap of our year introduced by our Chairman Rob Starr and Director Darren Abrahams. We were thrilled to be able to introduce many of this year’s Champions – young people who have received an Edward Starr Award to pursue opportunities in sports, arts or education. Jessie Jae and Jessie told the audience how their Edward Starr Awards had allowed them to continue studying performing arts at KBis School in Brighton and Claire, one of our Champion mothers, shared an emotional story about how her daughter’s life has changed for the better since receiving an award.Helen Trendell and Tara Dulake from digital marketing agency ThoughtShift spoke about why they had decided to work with the Starr Trust as their charity of choice for 12 months and announced that they have decided to continue their support through 2015 giving us digital expertise equalling £1200 a month of staff time. The audience also heard from Claire Webster, leader of the inspirational new Team Academy at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, about our exciting partnership this year through our Starr Pioneers programme. The event also saw the launch of our Pledge Wall. This is a way for us to let you know how you can help us champion more young people. Time and expertise is as valuable to us as money, so if you’d like to get involved in our activities we’d love to hear from you. Please send all pledges of support to mel@starrtrust.com.
