Our Champion Hannah Brings Back 5 Medals at the Rafting World Championships
Our Champion Hannah, along with four other young women from across the UK, took part in the Rafting World Championships held in Dubai on November 2nd-5th, and brought home an incredible 5 medals for Great Britain.
Rafting comprises of 4 individual disciplines: Sprint, Head to Head, Slalom and Endurance. The ladies U23 team was only formed in February this year and this was their first international event.
Team GB sent out 6 teams of young women and men, all were under 19 or under 23. All the teams train at Lee Valley White Water Centre which was the Olympic venue for the Kayak Slalom in 2012. Three members of the team also compete in Slalom at an Elite level.
There were a total of 83 teams from 23 different countries participating in the Championships and competition was fierce.
Team GB U23 girls won two Golds for Sprint and Endurance, a Silver for Overall and two Bronze medals for Slalom and Head to Head. This exceeded all expectations and GB had the best results in its history.
Hannah told us “Being part of the World Championships was such an incredible experience. I am so proud of my team mates and our achievements and am extremely grateful to the Starr Trust for their financial support. As there is no national funding available, their help meant we were able to get out to Dubai and compete”.
Our Press & PR Manager Nicole said “We are thrilled and incredibly proud of Hannah and her team mates. This is an extraordinary result for this sport and for Great Britain. They all work and train so incredibly hard we just couldn’t be more pleased that we were able to help her to realise her incredible potential”.
